Not all people who snore have sleep apnea but at least half the number do. But we certainly can say most people, if not all, having sleep apnea do snore. Sleep apnea is a common but serious sleep disorder in which a person's breathing is interrupted during sleep. The most common type of sleep apnea is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which occurs due to collapse of soft tissues at the back of the throat. In OSA, the person may have choking sound along with loud snoring.

Research has shown oral appliance therapy is an effective treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Worn only during sleep an oral appliance is like sports guard or an orthodontic retainer. It supports the jaw in a forward position to help attain an open upper airway.

Bruxism means Habitual grinding of teeth which is involuntary. This activity does not happen during the normal function such as eating or talking. Grinding of teeth happens during sleep and also when the person is awake, the damage caused to the teeth are similar in both cases. Most people who grind their teeth are unaware of the problem either there are no symptoms or the symptoms does not seem to be associated with clenching or grinding.
